Interview with Kurt Thompson, Linville Ridge Head Golf Pro
May 2007
- What struck you about this place the first time you saw it?
The first time I played Linville Ridge I was taken back with the excellent condition of the golf course. There is a strong sense of pride with our golf course and what it has to offer our members and guests. The layout of the golf course leads your eye to some incredible long-range views, which adds to the entire golf experience here at Linville Ridge.
- From your point of view, what is the essence of what Linville Ridge offers to residents and guests?
From my point of view, the golf operation strives to offer the highest level of service to our members and their guests. We want to provide a quality experience for each individual, keeping in mind that this could be the only opportunity they have to join us for a day.
- What impact will the changes have on residents and guests?
I do not think it will take long for word to spread that we have taken the steps to make some significant changes to better our golf course and the surrounding facilities. With this being our 25th Anniversary, it is safe to say that change needed to happen. Golf courses should get a face-lift to accommodate the growth of the game. Look at Augusta and the changes they have made in the last 4 years.
- What does the future of Linville Ridge look like?
I feel the future of Linville Ridge is as good as it has ever been. The NC Mountains are a destination that continues to grow each year. To have the golf, facilities, and dining that are available here at Linville Ridge, I feel that we will continue to add to the quality that the Linville, Banner Elk area can provide in a private club experience.
- Questions for Bobby Weed
I am confident that my opinions to these questions will match what Mr. Weed is doing for Linville Ridge. There is no doubt in my mind that we have hired the best architect for our facility. It will be exciting to see what Bobby Weed's impact will be for the next 25 years of Linville Ridge.
