The eight Har-Tru® tennis courts at Linville Ridge are open May through October. Ball machines and backboards are available. Professional instruction is available from a friendly and experienced staff.
Tennis at Linville Ridge is a great activity for families, tennis enthusiasts, or just those who wish to learn the sport. Members and their guests are afforded unlimited use of this outstanding facility as well as immediate access to the professional teaching staff, and a full service tennis pro shop which offers racquet stringing and re-gripping, as well as tennis accessories and apparel. Our tennis program offers just what you need to help you improve your skills, or simply play for the fun of it.
The Tennis Pro Shop is the heart of the Club’s seasonal tennis activity. This is the place to make a match, sign up for a tournament, arrange a lesson, reserve a ball machine or just relax and chat about your game. Tennis clothing for men and women, shoes, bags and other gear are available at competitive prices.

Director of Tennis
A native of West Virginia who grew up in North Carolina, Steve has been director of tennis at Linville Ridge since 1988; he winters in Naples, Florida, where he holds the same position at Grey Oaks Country Club. He attended Clemson, serving as captain of the tennis team, and has run the tennis operations at the Country Club of Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio and at Quail Creek Country Club in Naples. Steve and his daughter are currently ranked #3 in the U.S.
A Linville Ridge staffer since 1987, Carl has been a local resident since elementary school and competed on his high school and college tennis teams. He became a certified United States Professional Tennis Association member in 1997. His in-depth experience with the Club, his sport, and the area have proven to be invaluable assets to the membership.
A former American professional tennis player, JoAnne and her partner Helen Gourlay Cawley won the Wimbledon Ladies’ Doubles title in 1977. They beat the team of Chris Evert and Rosie Casals in the first round and the top-ranked team of Martina Navratilova and Betty Stöve in the final (6-3, 6-3). JoAnne reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 22.
The Linville Ridge tennis venue is simply first class great clinics, outstanding personal training with nationally known players/instructors, competitive matches at all levels including mixed doubles and a Pro-Am, all while maintaining the courts in impeccable condition. - Clark Alger
