COURSE TOUR

A drawn tee shot will follow the slight right to left fairway putting you in a good position on this opening par 5. Players will have the option to lay up for a full approach shot or take their chances in attacking this hole. Strategic bunkers short and left of the green complex will challenge the errant lay up shot. Be careful not to be long or left on your approach as these areas call for a demanding up and down.play icon

Hole 1

This par 4 offers each player a variety from the tee box. The smart play is to leave a full approach shot into one of the most scenic green complexes on the golf course. The best angle of approach into this multi-tiered green is from the right side of the fairway. Be aware of the deep bunkers to the left of the green as short and right.play icon

Hole 2

A downhill par 3 demands a well-struck iron into this two tiered green. A long and deep bunker guards the right side of the green and protects balls from the precipitous slope below. Be careful not to go long as several collection areas linger behind the green. Any bit of wind will affect your tee shot much more than on the previous holes; your best up and down opportunity.play icon

Hole 3

To have the best scoring opportunity, this dogleg right par 4 calls for a tee on the left side of the fairway. Be sure to avoid the large fairway bunker right which leaves minimal chance to reach the green. The downhill approach requires proper club selection as this green only offers a safe miss short and left. The second half of the green tends to run away while the front half can hold a front pin placement.play icon

Hole 4

Etched into a side of the terrain, this par 4 plays as one of the toughest on the opening nine. Playing your tee shot to the right half will help avoid trouble left and allow the slope to help shape your shot. The uphill approach calls for precise strategy as each pin placement can lead to a three putt. The green slopes from back to front so be sure to stay short of the pin.play icon

Hole 5

This long par three is the most demanding of the par 3′s. The ideal ball flight is a fade as this green complex is more receptive to a miss moving left to right. Short cut approach areas on the left of the green are a better up and down option. Bunkering to the right side of the green can leave a difficult par save.play icon

Hole 6

A true drivable par 4 that offers the reward if you are willing to take the risk. This uphill tee shot requires accuracy and distance control. Those who choose to lay up will face a challenging approach to this smaller green complex. Be sure to steer clear of the creek running to the left and below the green.play icon

Hole 7

As the most challenging hole on the front nine, this uphill par 4 requires two great shots. Bunkers guard the left side of this green as the right side leaves room for way-word approach shots. Club selection is key as this uphill approach easily plays a club longer.play icon

Hole 8

This right to left par 5 calls for a confident swing from the tee which sets the tone for the hole. A well guarded green creates caution in going for it in two. Be aware of the creek that runs to the left side of the green as it has been known to catch a pulled shot. A short and right miss will leave you with the best chance for an up and down.play icon

Hole 9

This straight away par 4 is the beginning of one of the most beautiful back nines in golf. This green is best to approach from the left side of the fairway as the tree lined right side can cause trouble. Deep bunkers on the right side of this green have to be avoided at all cost.play icon

Hole 10

A slight downhill par 4 that turns slightly to the right. Fairway bunkers call for a precise tee shot as long hitters have to avoid the strategic bunker on the left side of the fairway. Finding the fairway will leave a short to mid iron in to a receptive green. Avoid bunkering to the left as your miss must stay to the right side of the green rolling into the short game area.play icon

Hole 11

A challenging par 4 with bunkers guarding the right side of the fairway. A precise approach shot must leave you below the hole on the most severely sloped green of the golf course. Approach shots resulting above the hole will lead to a common three putt. It is best to miss short and left of the green than to miss one yard long.play icon

Hole 12

This par 5 plays to an elevation of 4,949 feet, the highest elevated golf hole east of the Mississippi. An uphill tee shot on the left side of the fairway only leads to a magnificent view of the bunkering and green complex below. Those who choose to lay up must avoid the large bunker that exists at the bottom right of this fairway. The green complex moves from left to right and is well guarded with bunkering and mounding on both sides.play icon

Hole 13

Good club selection is a must as this par 3 typically plays shorter than the actual yardage. Avoid the deep bunkers on the left as this will give you a challenging bunker shot to save par. It is always best to be short as trouble long easily creeps in. Be confident in your putting line as this is the most difficult green to read on the golf course.play icon

Hole 14

This fairway slopes right to left calling for a precise tee shot on this short par 4. Be aware of the fairway bunkers on the left as this area calls for a difficult approach to this crowned shape green. As you hit your approach, be sure to look to your left as you are almost eye level with Grandfather Mountain.play icon

Hole 15

It is difficult to focus on the task at hand as this is the most scenic par 3 in the North Carolina Mountains! A downhill tee shot that will allow you to take 30 yards off the actual distance. Take note in the direction of the clouds as this gives you the best advice for wind direction.play icon

Hole 16

This par 5 plays to a dogleg left and is the most demanding tee shot on the golf course. Tee shots on the right side of the fairway give you the best opportunity to score. A strategic second shot is required as a ravine lurks short of the green. This heavily bunkered green complex will catch those being aggressive to a back right pin. The safe shot is to the middle of the green as the ball will feed to the right.play icon

Hole 17

The home hole offers a beautiful par 4 with the long range views that you came for. Be sure to place your tee shot on the left half of the fairway as the bunkering to the right is severe. As you prepare to hit your final approach, notice the contour of the green moving left to right and the swale short and right. This has to come into play as precision is key to score well coming home.play icon
